Water is purified by advanced RO and UV treatment technologies making it 100% safe for drinking.

Due to climate change there has been more flooding and severe draughts. This is mostly affecting the already vulnerable communities who are struggling with the effects of water stress and experience a lack of access to safe and clean drinking water. Our solution includes rainwater harvesting from the massive rooftops of schools, institutions, and hospitals. We treat it and offer decentralised drinking water services using our digital innovation MSafi ATM serving the end users.

We do this through the involvement of persons with disabilities, youth, and young women to be drivers of change that we need i.e., each household has access to a healthy living and increased potential.

Maji Milele started with an idea: can prepaid water ATMs improve the sustainability of water supply in Africa? We started in 2014 with a prototype ATM. The first 3 years were very difficult. Since then we have become very successful, also leading to competitors coming to market. Currently about 0.8 million people have access to water via our ATMs. The next step is integrating our ATMs with solar-powered purification systems for the tens of thousands of locations where water has excess salts.

Tusafishe is a social enterprise that uses one technology to solve the safe water problem and mitigate the effects of climate change among underserved communities in Uganda. The enterprise’s technology elicits the power in the protein found in Moringa seed powder combined with decomposing granite to form a purification medium. Communities like refugee camps get safe water at only $0.5 per person for 5 years which is the lowest cost of safe drinking water in Uganda.
