The Challenge

The trauma center coordinates all acute care that is provided by ambulances, general practitioners and 11 emergency rooms in the Southwest region of the Netherlands. All emergency calls for acute medical care are processed and the workload is divided amongst the care providers in the region. This is a complex logistical system, that experiences high fluctuations in demand which causes a constant pressure on the acute care system and her personnel. Think of solutions in the line of data/logistics, apps, artificial intelligence and communication solutions. The trauma center wants to improve its services in the following areas:

Information solutions

What are the waiting times at different emergency rooms in the region (accessible for patients, GPs and acute care providers), which care provider/institution should I make use of etc.

Patient empowerment

When and where do I need to go? Empowering patients to determine the urgency of their symptoms and make better decisions whether to use acute care or not, preventing unnecessary use of the acute care system

Logistics

(Data) Systems to divide the pressure on the acute care system more evenly, and in all make the trauma center more efficient
