HEINEKEN Innovators Brewhouse –

'Drop the C' Challenge

PILOT CONTRACT, COACHING, ACCESS TO GLOBAL NETWORK Deadline passed

Get in the Ring and HEINEKEN’s Innovators Brewhouse are looking for “cool” innovations that help reduce HEINEKEN’s carbon footprint. Are you ready to work together in a pilot project with HEINEKEN Innovators to co-create relevant, consumer-facing ideas for sustainable innovations?

HEINEKEN is a proud, independent global brewer committed to surprise and excite consumers with its brands and products everywhere. From a single brewery in Amsterdam 150 years ago, the company is grown into the world’s most international brewer, being present in over 70 countries, operating more than 165 breweries and employing 81,000 people. Their flagship brand Heineken® is available in almost every country on the globe and is being flanked by 250 international premium, regional, local and specialty beers and ciders.

HEINEKEN believes that business growth and sustainability go hand in hand. This is why its Brewing a Better World sustainability strategy is one of the business priorities. The recently launched campaign Drop the C, holds the name given to their ambition to consistently lower emission levels. When you drop the C of CO2 you are left with Oxygen and we need more of that.

HEINEKEN, born in a city 4 meters below sea level, is reaching out to innovators around the world. Let’s not wait for change to happen, let’s create it!

THE CHALLENGE

HEINEKEN needs innovations that make sustainability and its brands act ‘cool’ in order to show the world that green is in their DNA. By cracking innovations that reduce packaging materials, make cooling act smart or lead the way for sustainable distribution, HEINEKEN aims to reduce their CO2 emissions and contribute to achieving the COP21 sustainability goals. We are looking for start-up companies with solutions that can reduce the carbon footprint. For this, five topics of interest have been identified:

Smart use / reduce of materials

e.g. new approach to packaging materials

New eco-friendly sources for brewing products

e.g. different ingredients requiring less resources, thereby saving emissions while providing an unique benefit and/or story

Reuse of ‘waste’ for products

e.g. reuse of ingredients, repurpose of waste for merchandise / visibility items

Smart solutions for cooling & distribution models

e.g. reduce energy and save emissions, whilst serving consumers with cold beers & ciders at home or out of home

Solutions that drive societal change

e.g. effectively driving or changing consumer behaviour towards sustainability
