Dairy company FrieslandCampina, HighTechXL and Get in the Ring are looking for startups and scale-ups to improve the microbiome of both humans and animals. Ongoing research shows a possible role for the microbiome within overall health and quality of living, but also the possible prevention of chronic diseases.

 

Every day FrieslandCampina provides millions of consumers all over the world with dairy products that are rich in valuable nutrients. FrieslandCampina has branch offices in 33 countries and employs a total of just under 22,000 people. FrieslandCampina’s products find their way to more than 100 countries. With annual revenue of 11 billion euros, and 18,900 member dairy cooperatives, FrieslandCampina is one of the world’s six largest dairy companies.

 

FrieslandCampina supplies consumer products such as dairy-based beverages, infant nutrition, cheese and desserts in many European countries, in Asia and in Africa. In addition, products are supplied to professional customers, including cream and butter products to bakeries and catering companies. In addition, FrieslandCampina produces ingredients and half-finished products for manufacturers of infant nutrition, the food industry and the pharmaceutical sector around the world.

THE CHALLENGE

The microbiome is an ecosystem of trillions of microbes — some dangerous and some beneficial — living within the body. For the most part, they quietly help digest food, absorb nutrients, and fight off dangerous pathogens. Altering and improving the microbiome can be done through all kinds of nutritional products. We are looking for solutions in several areas:

Nutritional concepts

Nutritional concepts that can be connected to existing ingredients to open up new markets.

New concepts and applications

New concepts and applications that (a) improve overall health and quality of life and/or (b) prevent and treat specific diseases.

Data collection

Innovative ways in collecting data on the microbiome.

Measuring

Measuring consumer insights and behavior linked to the microbiome.

Scalable production

Scale(able) ingredient production processes for these kind of solutions.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Expert coaching.

REQUIREMENTS

You should

  • have a working prototype or demonstrator;

  • be able to launch a finished product within the next 12 months.

The deadline for applications is December 20th.
JANUARY 15TH

ANNOUNCEMENT SELECTED STARTUPS


The announcement of the selection will be done in the week of January 15th.
JANUARY 31ST

FINAL EVENT


Selected startups will be invited to FrieslandCampina on January 31st, to talk business. The most relevant startup(s) will be awarded with a pilot project.
