Maji Milele started with an idea: can prepaid water ATMs improve the sustainability of water supply in Africa? We started in 2014 with a prototype ATM. The first 3 years were very difficult. Since then we have become very successful, also leading to competitors coming to market. Currently about 0.8 million people have access to water via our ATMs. The next step is integrating our ATMs with solar-powered purification systems for the tens of thousands of locations where water has excess salts.
Tusafishe is a social enterprise that uses one technology to solve the safe water problem and mitigate the effects of climate change among underserved communities in Uganda.
