Patient-centeredness is one of the core values of Maasstad hospital. Currently there are a lot of different situations where patients or their caregivers spend time in the hospital. They could be admitted or waiting before or in between consultations, treatments or additional investigations. For example during recovery from surgery or in the acute care department. Each of these moments represents an opportunity to empower patients with insights, to prepare them for the care they will receive, to educate them on Maasstad specific topics and services, to improve health, to provide an opportunity for feedback, or simply entertain them so they feel less stressed or bored. This Challenge is focused on the triple E: Experience, Empowerment and Education. This approach is in line with the hospital’s Value Based Healthcare strategy.

The Health Innovation Challenge
The Health Innovation Challenge (HIC) is an initiative of the Rotterdam municipality to stimulate care innovation in the Rotterdam region. Startups, SMEs and healthcare institutions are challenged to collaboratively find solutions to health challenges. The most innovative and promoting startups will start a pilot with either Erasmus Medical Center, the Municipality of Rotterdam, Trauma Center SWN or Maasstad Hospital. HIC is a collaboration between the Municipality of Rotterdam, Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship (ECE), Stichting Maatschappij & Onderneming (SMO) and the Get in the Ring Foundation.
The Maasstad Hospital will select the most innovative and promising companies they wish to work with.
