We usually connect Antibes with the French riviera, yachts and one of the top jazz festivals in the world Jazz a Juan. Well, on 26th of January this perception was overturned as the Get in the Ring France gathered startups and corporates in one ultimate entrepreneurship event. Azur Arena was transformed into a real boxing ring where startups battled for their place at the Global Final in Singapore! During the whole day, startups had the unique opportunity to be mentored and received trainings to strengthen their knockout pitches and charm the Champion jury!
BOOTCAMP
A bootcamp was only the first part of the day-long exciting event. 15 coaches, among which 6 were from IBM France and the Netherlands, came to Antibes to give professional guidance to the participating startups. A coach specialized in media training shared tips and hints on how to cooperate with media and win over the sympathy of the Jury members.
MATCHUPS
Furthermore, speed dating sessions took place that were creating perfect matches! During these Matchups, each startup or corporate could find their perfect partner to do business with. Business ideas were discussed at 11 round tables in 15 minutes slots. Business Angels, crowdfunding investors, banks and big names in tech and energy such as IBM and ENGIE actively participated in the discussions. Overall more than 120 meetings took place and business opportunities were flying faster than the speed of sound!
AWARD SHOW
More than 30 startups participated in the event, and through a tough selection round 8 managed to reach the ring of glory. In front of the excited audience of more than 200 people and a panel of 10 Champion jury members, startups had to prove their solution eith their knockout pitches. The tension was growing and in a couple of rounds, the best two startups were selected. The proud Lightweight winner was Rugby centric, who developed the first gamified rugby training web application that will cover both individual and collective rugby preparation. The Middleweight winner Helper choice created a reliable online platform that will help migrant domestic workers to access the job market with fair conditions.
Although some of the startups will not make it to the Global Final their promising ideas are worth mentioning!
