Bayer is a global leader in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry dedicated to supporting social initiatives all around the world. This year, the company is launching the first-ever Bayer Social Innovation Award: Change the Course of Water. This award is tailored to support social entrepreneurs with water solutions to help improve the health and nutrition of underserved communities by providing safe, efficient and clean water.

For this award, together with Bayer, the world’s most global startup competition Get in the Ring, is on the lookout for social entrepreneurs who are working on solutions to change the course of water and create lasting social impact. With this award, four of the most innovative water solutions get a chance to win an award of €35,000. The startup finalists will benefit from the network, knowledge, and exposure of partnering with one of the world’s top pharmaceutical and life science corporations. The global podium of Get in the Ring, active in over 200 cities worldwide, has given countless opportunities to unconventional solutions all over the world to prove their solutions and solve 21st century challenges.

The most promising startups from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific will get a chance to present their solution in a public voting campaign and the finalists will get a ticket to the award ceremony in Europe. They will be introduced to the international  impact ecosystem and will make valuable connections to scale their business.

Monika Lessl, Vice President Bayer Corporate R&D and Social Innovation; Director of Bayer Foundation said: “Water is the foundation for everything – it forms the basis for good health and nutrition. But this foundation is threatened. Many communities in the Global South lack access to safe, efficient and clean water. Innovative solutions created for and with the local population are desperately needed. With the Bayer Social Innovation Award, we want to support water entrepreneurs and enable communities to change their course of life – through one of the most precious resources: water.”

Jurgen Nieuwenhuijsen, COO at Unknown Group and Director of Get in the Ring said: “ Game changing solutions with the potential to create lasting impact can come from any corner of the world. We believe that by shining a global spotlight on these solutions and connecting them to an industry leader like Bayer, they can bring their solutions to scale and empower underserved communities. The Bayer Social Innovation Award will be open to social entrepreneurs on a near-global scale: Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. We’re eager to see which social entrepreneurs will change the course of water.”
